As Tradition has it…on Halloween, Merchants dressed in costumes hand out treats to trick-or-treaters in downtown Grass Valley from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the annual “Safe Trick or Treat Celebration”. At the same time parents can visit the Center for the Arts at 314 Main Street for the Eighth Annual “Read to Your Child Halloween Book Giveaway.”
Great children's books will be available in both English and Spanish. Children will be able to choose a book to take home, be given a personalized bookplate, see a puppet show, visit with the fire department, and receive other treats. There will be information for parents as well.
This event is sponsored and supported by local agencies, merchants and many others supporting early literacy in our community. Make Reading a Family Tradition.
Another traditional event in Nevada County is "Day of the Young Child," a fun festival for children ages 0-8 and their families. This is a great place to connect with local activities, resources and child care. Every booth has a kids' activity, so kids have fun while parents connect with resources. There's also food for sale and lots of music and fun performers to enjoy.

The Nevada County Fair will take place from August 11 through the 15, 2010 this summer. “Kids Corner” has become a sweet part of the fair! Come pick out a book to take home and join in all the fun.
This area,
next to the model railroad building, is for our
youngest fair-goers, under six years old. There will be
activities just right for little ones (play dough, water play, bubbles, music
and movement, the famous milking cow, etc) - and all
the activities are free!
Kids Voted the fair as “Nevada County’s Best Event” 10 Years in a Row! And it was voted as runner-up for “Best Place to Take the Kids”
