Proposition 10 echoes what many parents and caregivers have long known—the first five years of a child’s life are critically important for brain development and later success in life. The law requires that the monies from the tobacco surcharge be spent on children, prenatally to five years old, and their families for health and wellness, early care and development, and parent education and support.
First 5 Nevada County provides support to community partners through funding and partnerships. We also run a school readiness program in Western Nevada County and contract with Tahoe Truckee Unified School District to provide a school readiness program in Eastern Nevada County.
